Der Weltuntergang hat Konjunktur: Vom bevorstehenden Klima-Armageddon, Corona-Virus oder globalen Finanzcrashs, sogar von albtraumhaften Sci-Fi-Dystopien scheint für viele Menschen der westlichen Welt eine seltsame Erotik auszugehen – das belegen immer neue Filme und Serien, die sich mit dieser Thematik auseinandersetzen. Doch was, wenn das Worst-Case-Szenario wirklich eintritt?
Die Performancegruppe virtuellestheater erklärt unter dem Motto APOCALYPSE NEVER das Fleetstreet Theater zu ihrer Forschungsbasis und macht es zum multifunktionalen Doomsday Shelter. Untersucht werden hier mögliche wie unmögliche Weltuntergänge und all jene, die sich dagegen wappnen: Prepper, Verschwörungstheoretiker*innen und Survival-Fanatics. Gibt es ein Überleben jenseits von heteronormativer Schicksalsgemeinschaft und weiß-männlichen Allmachtsfantasien?

The end of the world is looming – and booming! If it is the impending climate armageddon, Corona-Virus or of global financial crashs, even nightmarish sci-fi-dystopias, all of this seems to be strangely exciting for many people in the western world, evidenced by an endless stream of new films and series that deal with it. But what if the worst-case-scenario actually occurs?
Under the motto APOCALYPSE NEVER, the performance group virtuellestheater turns the Fleetstreet Theater into their research base – come – multifunctional doomsday shelter. Here, we want to examine possible and impossible endings of the world as we know it, and take a closer look at all those who arm themselves against it: preppers, conspiracy theorists and survival fanatics. Is there life beyond the heteronormative nuclear family and male white fantasies of omnipotence?

virtuellestheater was founded in 2015. In ever-new constellations and cross-genre collaborations with others, the group sees the best conditions for subversive criticism of the present times and for artistic research outside neoliberal western thinking. By using nonlinear narrative forms, digital media, new technology, speculative performance installations we aim for a good life where better futures are created.
